Priest Conviction Is Overturned

The conviction of a former Roman Catholic priest who was convicted in 2003 of sexually abusing two Bullitt County boys has been overturned by the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Justice John Minton ordered a new trial for Daniel Clark, who is serving a ten-year sentence after being convicted in 2003 on charges that he abused two boys ages eight and nine.

Clark is the only former priest who has had a case heard before the state Supreme Court following the sexual-abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Four priests and two lay teachers within the Archdiocese have been convicted of abuse since 2002. In a five-to-two decision, the court ordered the case remanded to Bullitt Circuit Court for a new trial.

The 59-year-old Clark was removed from the priesthood in 2004. He was one of the clerics at the center of the sexual-abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Of four priests in the archdiocese who were convicted, Clark was the only one to bring an appeal
