Banned biblical banner back to Croker

A RELIGIOUS banner synonymous with GAA matches will be back in Croke Park, despite being refused entry last weekend.

Frank Hogan the evangelist who has been unfurling his John 3:7 banner at GAA matches for the past 20 years, said he was dismayed at not being allowed to bring it inside the stadium during Sunday's Leinster football semi-final clash between Dublin and Meath.

However, the 72-year-old shopkeeper from Co Limerick has since received reassurances that both he and his banner are welcome at the GAA's headquarters.

Mr Hogan -- known affectionately as 'John' to GAA fans across Ireland -- said he was walking towards his seat last Sunday when "a well-dressed and well-spoken" Croke Park official stopped him.

"He said, 'You can go in but the sign has to stay outside'," said Mr Hogan, who left the stadium and returned home.

However, Croke Park's stadium director Peter McKenna said last night he wasn't aware that Mr Hogan's banner had been refused entry.

He added that Mr Hogan would always be welcome in the stadium.
